Welcome to HITSS-ND

A RESEARCH STUDY FOR FORMER NOTRE DAME FOOTBALLERS

The Independent Notre Dame Footballers' Medical Research Project, conducted by Boston University researchers, is now enrolling for Phase Two, called HITSS-ND, to answer questions about later-life brain health risks from repetitive head impacts in college football. Anyone age 40 or older who played football at Notre Dame is eligible to enroll. HITSS-ND is an extension of the Head Impact & Trauma Surveillance Study (HITSS) specifically for former Notre Dame football players.

WHAT WAS PHASE ONE?

Phase One of the study was launched with an initial group of 216 former Notre Dame football players from the 1964-1980 seasons. To access a summary of the findings, click the button below!

WHAT IS PHASE TWO?

Phase Two is fully online and enrollment is open to anyone age 40 or older who played football at Notre Dame. You did not have to participate in Phase One to enroll in HITSS-ND, and if you did participate in Phase One, you can still enroll now into HITSS-ND.

HITSS-ND includes questionnaires on sports participation, medical history, and behavior & mood, and a few brain games. It is easy to enroll and can be completed at any time and over several days, if desired. Upon completion of both Parts 1 & 2 of the HITSS assessment, participants will be entered into a drawing for a $500 gift card.

Please Note: Although many questionnaires can be completed on a mobile device, the computerized brain games can only be completed on a laptop or desktop computer.

This study is entirely independent of the University of Notre Dame and is not funded by the University of Notre Dame.

Am I eligible to participate in HITSS-ND?

You are eligible to participate if you are age 40 or older & played football at the University of Notre Dame.
